    Message from the Principal

John W. Provine High School is located in the western quadrant of Jackson at 2400 Robinson Street. For the past fifty-two (52) years, Provine High School has served the constituency of the West Jackson community through its various academic and non-academic programs and activities.  Provine is a member of the High Schools That Work network and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. As a school-wide Title-I school, students are supported via enrichment opportunities and services related to instruction, attendance, parental involvement, and faculty professional development.

At the core of opportunities at John W. Provine High School, one would discover an evolving instructional program facilitated by several sub-programs. The many academic offerings include regular, honors, accelerated, and AP classes. These programs provide students with educational alternatives that will prepare them for the world of work or higher education. In addition to the many academic offerings, Provine boasts of having several extracurricular offerings for students, which have placed us on a par with the best schools in the state. Extra curricula programs include S.E.C.M.E, Robotics' team, choir, band, drill team, cheerleaders, academic challenge bowl team, Mock Trial team, JROTC, FCA, FCCLA, FBLA, as well as a variety of sports teams.

We are fortunate to have many quality, award-winning programs supervised by caring, knowledgeable adults. In 2007, the Robotics' team won the F.I.R.S.T. Bayou Regional Competition in New Orleans, Louisiana out performing thirty-seven other teams. The Pride of Provine Band and the Essence of Provine Drill Team earned superior ratings at the 2009 state band festival, as did the Madrigal Choir at the state choir festival. The boys' basketball team has won  five state championship. The JROTC program was designated an Honor Unit with Distinction placing it among the top ten percent in the nation. This year our softball and volleyball teams were division champions.

The future for the students of Provine High School is indeed a bright one. We encourage our parents, friends, and other supporters to join with us in providing positive and rewarding experiences for our students. On behalf of the entire Provine family, WELCOME to the Home of the Mighty Rams!
